They are good bros in that sense, but their relationship isn’t that deep and never was. They get into scuffles a lot and they seem to have more of the stereotypical male friendship that is about getting into little (physical) fights here and there and which includes name calling and what not. This fits in with the way they became friends (through gang fighting and such). I also don’t doubt that they might have been closer when they were in school. But then, once they left and after Kotetsu got married and had a kid, it probably became harder to stay close to Antonio just due to have different priorities. Then, after Tomoe died, Kotetsu entered a depressive state, which didn’t help matters. But, personally, I think their relationship is fine as it is now (being drinking buddies), since I actually find it to be very natural and realistic. There is still a great level of trust and respect in their relationship, since Kotetsu asked Antonio to look after Kaede if anything happened to him, it just isn’t a best friend or buddy-buddy relationship and probably never was (since the series started anyway, their teenage friendship may have been different, we just don’t really know for sure…Kotetsu has had trust issues and issues opening up to others since he was a kid, so it is possible that he never allowed himself to get too close to Antonio even when they were in high school).
